The Major Waterfalls in Karnataka:
Jog Falls: Four waterfalls different to each other in size, constitutes to form one falls that are known as jog falls. Dabbe Falls: The travelers can witness the grandeur of the Dabbe falls in the Bhimeshwari valley, about 25 km away, trek down about 5km from where the waterfalls start plummeting to join the pool of vast rivers and Arabian Sea. Similarly, the Lashington falls prancing from the narrow lanes of the hills creates a breathtaking view of the entire region. The travelers can spend some best moments of their life at Dabbe falls with their family or friends respectively.
Unchalli Falls/ Lushington Falls: The cool water plummeting on the ground with a great force puts a soothing effect on the senses. It takes away prolonged tiredness and induces a great relief to the visitors who chose Unchalli Falls as a weekend option to spend their holidays. Also known as Lushington Falls, these falls were first discovered by the J.D. Lushington collector of Uttara Kannada, during the British rule. As the water fall on the heavy rocks, it makes deafening sounds. Hence this waterfall is also known by the name Keppa Joga.
Magod Falls: The fabulous Magod Falls perched 80 km from Karwar, hurtle from a height of 650 feet merging to become a part of the vast pool. The rocky meadows, grandiosity of the water cascading from the hillock and verdant hues in its back drop together combine to offer heart melting view.
Hebbe Falls: The Hebbe falls hurtling and plummeting down to blend itself in the river is just a great view to behold. Falling from the height of 250 feet, these waterfalls in the initial stages divides themselves into two namely Dodda Falls(big) and Chikka(small). While falling from a great height, this waterfall carrying the mixture of herbs turns into a great herbal healer. Taking a dip into these waters can cure all the diseases.
Shivanasamundram Falls: Shivanasamudram is the traveler’s paradise. Gentle rolling foothills seduce with their pristine freshness, the woods are virgin and the experience at these Shivasamundram falls is sublime. The travelers while traversing from the villages will finally venture to a halt—Cauvery river. The life line of Karnataka splits itself into two streams—Barachukki and Gaganchukki. About 9 km from the road Georgia, turn left to the Pandithahalli and drive Shri Vishveshwaraya Hydroelectric city plant, is labeled as ‘Bluff’. From bluff it is a five minutes drive to these falls. The two beautiful cascades emanating from the hillocks will definitely leave you spell bound.
Gaganchukki: The Gaganchukki boasts a fall side dargah on the opposite bank, a short drive across the hill side. The revelers should take a word of caution while visiting these waterfalls. These waterfalls get more boisterous during the monsoon season. A couple of food stalls selling fresh coconut water and gooseberries spiced with red chilies complete the whole experience of visiting this destination.
Barachukki: Barachukki is just beyond the Daragh, a few kilometers away. The falls here form a deep sylvan, deep pool. The vacationers can swim here or even catch a coracle ride(Rs 100 to 150). The best time to visit these waterfalls is August to February.
Abbey Falls: The Abbey falls sandwiched away from the privately owned coffee and tea plantations. As you pass away from the squeaky and dense coffee-Tea plantations, the falls suddenly makes a dramatic appearance. The water hurtling from a great elevation cascades down abruptly to presents the spectacular views. These falls prance to join the Cuavery river which is at its best during the monsoon season.
Irrupu Falls: Nestled behind Rajiv Gandhi National Park, the travelers can get the stunning sights of water falling from a great height. The Irrupu waterfalls lie at the base of the Brahamgiri range, which has been identified as one of the major hotpots of biodiversity in Coorg. While on a visit toIrrupu falls, the travelers can also make a visit to Lahsmana Theertha and Rameshwara Temple. The beauty of Irrupu falls is heightened after the rains. Lalguli Falls: The Lalguli Falls tumbling from the height of 250 feet is a must see destination of the region. The Lalguli Falls are located 15 km North of Uttara Kannada district. The forested areas around Lalgulli falls are bandied by dense forests where the revelers can explore the possibilities of camping and jungle safari. The wild life enthusiasts would get an opportunity to penetrate deeper in the wilderness, siphoned by rich flora and fauna.
Sathodi Falls: Also known as Mini Niagara Falls of Uttara Kannada, the Sathodi falls plunging from a height of 15 meter to create a picturesque picnic spot. While sauntering a few meters away from the dense waterfalls, the area festering shimmering vistas wends off to present picturesque hills, crystal clear rivers and dainty faculties of Mother Nature.
Gokak Falls: Perched 65 km from the Belgaum, Gokak get its name due to the presence of Goki trees. The Ghataprabha river here takes a giant leap of 170 feet from the hillock which is impressively the best view to behold. The rivers traversing through the gradient hills, undulated rivers and craggy rocks, exude to form the grand waterfalls. It is thus a beautiful sight to behold.
